President Donald Trump’s chief strategist Steve Bannon has escalated his war of words with the media by vowing that ‘Every day is going to be a fight’, indicating that the White House’s confrontational stance against the media will only intensify through to 2020.

Bannon’s remarks come amid an ongoing feud with the press over reports of feuding and dysfunctional government within Washington and the chaotic implementation of tighter immigration curbs.

The former Breitbart News chief made his remarks during a rare public appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) where he told his friendly audience: “Here’s where it’s going to get worse. He’s [Trump] going to continue to press his agenda. And, as economic conditions get better, as more jobs get better, they’re going to continue to fight. If you think they’re going to give you their country back without a fight, you are sadly mistaken. Every day it is going to be a fight.”

In a snub to the Democrats Bannon branded the media as ‘the opposition party’, accusing reporters of deliberately painting the administration in a negative light.

Bannon was deployed on stage alongside White House chief of staff Reince Priebus to put on a united front following his controversial elevation from the 'alt-right' movement to the heart of national government.

Breitbart was hit by the resignation of Milo Yiannopoulos earlier this week after the organisations tech editor made a speech in which he apparently condoned child sex abuse.
