Media Live Streaming Millennials

More than half of millennial males rely on live streaming over cable for news, entertainment

Millennial men have a unique set of viewing habits with more than half no longer paying for cable packages in light of new streaming services, while more than one in four respondents claiming they plan to upgrade their internet speed this year, according to research from Videology.

The preference for streaming services is so strong that 75% of those surveyed said they would rather give up cable than streaming and that 61% of those use their connected TV, computer or mobile device for streaming.

Furthermore, 34% saying their primary way to watch movies is through a connected device while 27% say it's streaming through a computer or mobile device.


Interestingly, when it comes to getting their news, 43% of millennials get their information through a website, while 21% get their news through social media, 13% by television and a mere five per cent through printed newspapers.

The inforgraphic shows that 27% of the men surveyed said they are planning to upgrade for faster speeds, with 21% saying they plan to buy a new smartphone, 11% plan to buy a new wearable and 10% plan to buy a new digital media player.

Software developer Videology released their findings from the new survey, which covered topics like device preferences and streaming habits, and was distributed to 500 males using Google surveys.

"Millennial men are well known for embracing the latest in new media and technology," said Scott Ferber, founder and chief executive, Videology. "Knowing that, advertisers are keen to learn how and where they're interacting with content. This survey sheds a light into some of those answers."
