Periscope chief executive Kayvon Beykpour has been handed responsibility for Twitter’s live video products, a role which includes all product and engineering behind services such as NFL livestreams.

The added responsibilities are on top of his existing duties at Periscope and come a year after Beykpour was promoted to Twitter’s executive team.

Reporting directly to Twitter chief executive Jack Dorsey, Beykpour’s elevation highlights the continued importance placed on live video by the micro blogging platform as well as the extent to which Dorsey trusts one of his favoured lieutenant.

Up till now Periscope has operated as a distinct company beneath Twitter’s umbrella but with Beykpour’s expanded role this differentiation is becoming far less distinct, indicating that Twitter intends to fully integrate the business despite not making any public pronouncements on the matter.

Twitter sees live video as a central plank of its growth ambitions, flagship of which was a streaming partnership with the NFL to broadcast 10 ‘Thursday Night Football’ matches.
