Nintendo has begun building up anticipation of its much-hyped Switch console ahead of its 3 March launch by setting out the price for the first time alongside a look inside the box to show those who take the plunge what they can expect to receive for their money.

The novel device comes complete with a tablet-style motion sensitive controller which can slot into a dock for TV play or be carried out the door for remote play by those on the move.

Over 80 games are in development for the device, which will adopt a cartridge format as opposed to discs, including new Mario and Zelda titles and a novel motion-controlled boxing game called Arms.

Gamers in the US can expect to cough up $299.99 to get their hands on the device whilst residents of the UK and Japan will be charged £279.99 and 29,980 yen ($260) respectively, higher price points than most commentators had predicted.

Moreover anyone seeking additional peripherals can expect to be hit hard in the pocket with a detachable Joy-Con controller costing $79.99 and a spare dock to use the Switch on a second TV setting you back $89.99.

Nintendo has enjoyed success with its popular 3DS handheld but was burned by disastrous sales of the Wii U home console, prompting it to seek a profitable middle ground with the Switch.
