Minneapolis based marketing and media agency Haworth is celebrating the New Year with a significant account win after it scooped Walmart’s media account - 10 months after the retailer parted ways with incumbent agency MediaVest.

The commission will see Haworth tasked with overseeing the retailer’s media planning and placement as well as its brand integration strategy and the formation of new strategic marketing partnerships.

In a staff memo Walmart’s chief marketer in the US Tony Rogers wrote: “Haworth will play a number of roles for the Walmart US marketing team, well beyond those of a traditional media agency.”

Ebullient Haworth chief executive Gary Tobey added in a statement: “We look forward to the ways we’ll tell Walmart’s story to the world, Walmart has tremendous momentum; our team is ready to push to new heights, connecting with customers in relevant and innovative ways.”

Haworth suffered a blow last year with the loss of one of its biggest clients (and Walmart competitor) Target Corp, opening the door to Tuesday’s tie-up.

Walmart has begun working with Haworth with immediate effect.
