The Office for National Statistics has published an interactive tool enabling employees to find out at a glance where they sit on the pay scale in relation to colleagues of the opposite sex.

Compiled from a survey of 2016 hours and earnings the clickable chart has been conceived to highlight the gender pay gap and average earnings across a range of roles from advertising and public relations to marketing and sales.

Of the former the ONS calculates that women are paid 8% less than men at just £28.02 per hour on average, versus a healthier £30.46 for their male colleagues.

In marketing the differential is even more stark, with women taking home a whopping 17.1% less than men. This equates to an hourly salary of £36.45 for men and just £30.20 for women.

Both figures are better than the 18.1% differential across employment as a whole, the lowest discrepancy since records began.

Amongst the take home findings from the data are that more women work in lower paid roles and are more likely to work part time. It also highlights how women continue to be underrepresented in senior roles.

A font of interesting stats the ONS previously revealed that 14% of UK adults have never used the internet.
