Google is moving to phase out its Cast branding in favour of ‘Chromecast built-in’ as the technology giant seeks to ease consumer confusion over its streaming services.

A gradual phasing out of the Cast name began over the past few weeks with the renaming of the @googlecast Twitter account to @chromecast.

The changes coincide with growing consumer awareness of Chromecast devices, which have become increasingly popular with people seeking to wirelessly stream their media and audio files.

For now, several assets continue to reference Google Cast; including the Android TV page, ahead of a full switchover next year.

The popular Chromecast dongle first emerged in 2013 as an affordable route to crack the TV market.
