Amazon is reportedly seeking ways to make its Prime membership package more tempting to consumers by bundling a premium sports package offering live basketball and American Football.

The bold move would usurp the traditional dominance of pay to view broadcasters in airing live coverage of the NBA and NFL, both of which are said to be amongst those to have entered talks with the e-commerce provider.

By sweetening the Prime deal Amazon hopes to lure many more subscribers willing to stump up $99 per year to become a member of the Amazon family although the firm has yet to comment publicly on its plans.

Traditional broadcasters are likely to be sitting up and taking notice however, mindful that any bleed of sporting rights to streaming services could sweep the rug from under much of the industry.

Amazon isn’t alone in its pretensions however with Facebook and Twitter also seeking to ramp up their sport offerings in tandem with ratings declines on the major broadcasters.
