Brandtech group You & Mr Jones, has announced a series of senior appointments across the business, rounding off a strong year for the company.
Former BBH New York chief executive, Emma Cookson, has joined the group as a partner alongside Annette Stover, who comes from marketing communications management consultant Ark Advisors.
Cookson, a branding strategy leader, has helped shape some of the world’s most recognisable brands including Levi’s, Sony PlayStation and Google Chrome. She was recognized by Business Insider in 2012 as one of the 30 Most Powerful Women in Advertising and confirmed on AdAge's list of the 100 Most Influential Women in Advertising.
Discussing the move, Cookson said: “Throughout my career I've been lucky to work with some of the most progressive, smart & future-facing companies and brands. Joining You & Mr Jones gives me the opportunity to extend that privilege. The technology group that David is building has all the hallmarks of an organization that will help shape the future of business and marketing – who wouldn't be excited to help build that?”
New-York based Stover previously held a number of senior positions at Havas Worldwide, including chief operating officer and global chief of staff. She was also named one of Advertising Age’s “Women to Watch” and Working Mother magazine’s “Advertising Mothers of the Year”.
She commented: “I’m thrilled to be part of the team building You & Mr Jones - not only identifying ways to help marketers build brands better, faster and cheaper through technology but also building a global business that operates in that manner - people-powered and technology driven, multinational and agile. I love this unique, early opportunity we have to seek out diverse, like-minded entrepreneurs and business builders to join our group."
The final appointment sees Microsoft’s former global chief marketing officer, Mich Mathews-Spradlin, join as an independent board director. Mathews-Spradlin spent 22 years at the software developer where she oversaw 7,000 marketers and a multi-billion-dollar marketing spend for consumer brands such as Windows, Bing and Xbox.
“David and his fast-growing technology group are building the company that global brands are thirsting for,” said Mathews-Spradlin. “The world of marketing has changed dramatically and we need new approaches, new structures, new thinking and fresh new talent that’s not handcuffed to the way things have been done traditionally. I couldn’t be more pumped to join such a stellar group of individuals and be a part of their pioneering work.”
David Jones, founder and chief executive officer at You & Mr Jones, added: “We’re setting out to build a Brandtech group that combines the best technology available with the brightest minds in the world and I couldn’t be more proud of the talent joining us.”
You & Mr Jones was created just over a year-ago and aims to show that technology can build brands better, faster and cheaper than advertising. The approach is part of an industry wide evolution which is beginning to see the line between technology and marketing blur, giving way to a new one-stop shop breed of agency.
In just over a year since its launch, the group has made three acquisitions- Mofilm, fifty-five & theAmplify – nine technology investments, including Niantic Labs, Pixlee and Mashable and has launched two start-ups in Blood and Mosaic.
