US media giant Hearst has teamed up with Airbnb to produce a 32-page bi-annual magazine packed with content written by hosts themselves.

The surprise unveil took place at the Airbnb Open event in Los Angeles last week (18 November), when chief executive Brian Chesky invited delegates to look under their seats, where strategic copies had been placed earlier.

Airbnb Magazine is the fruit of a partnership with Hearst’s chief content officer Joanna Coles, who has been working on the venture for the past 18 months. Coles said: "What it does, unlike any other magazine out there, is that it taps into the expertise of you guys. Everything in it is sourced from hosts and regular travelers."

Coles hopes that the coffee table title will accompany travelers as they head to their Airbnb destinations as they swot up on the events, places and activities that await them.

The new magazine follows hot on the heels of Trips, an in-depth holiday service from Airbnb which offers travellers access to a range of experiences, guides and destinations.
