Politics is perhaps the best theater, especially during this volatile election cycle. Perhaps that was the cue that Broadway needed to shut down some of its more popular shows tomorrow, election day in the US.

The Hollywood Reporter reported the shows going dark on November 8 are: “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical;” “Cats;” “Chicago;” “The Color Purple;” “The Encounter;” “The Front Page;” “The Humans;” “Kinky Boots;” “Les Liaisons Dangereuses;” “Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812;” “Oh Hello on Broadway;” “On Your Feet!;” “Cirque du Soleil's Paramour;” “The Phantom of the Opera;” “School of Rock;” “Something Rotten!;” “Waitress;” and “Wicked.”

It was also reported that the Metropolitan Opera and Carnegie Hall will also be dark that night. The closings are supposed to encourage people to vote but the move is also designed so as not to compete with what should be one of the most watched election results ever.

Some shows will remain open for those who want to escape the reality of the day, including “Aladdin,” “The Lion King” and “Hamilton.”
