After weeks of planting anonymous teasers across the country, Aldi has revealed its Christmas advert starring Kevin the Carrot.

Launching on TV screens today (7 November) the ad is narrated by award-winning actor Jim Broadbent and tells the story of Kevin the Carrot making his way across a festive dinner table to try and meet Santa.

Kevin anxiously passes a plate of cooked carrots and ends up clinging on to a lip-licking reindeer’s antlers as he flies on Santa’s sleigh over London, Glasgow and Bristol.

“We’ve had an incredibly successful year at Aldi and our Christmas advert aims to celebrate our award-winning products, commitments to fresh, British, quality produce and of course our show-stopping festive range,” said Tony Baines, joint managing director of corporate buying at Aldi.

“We hope viewers enjoy watching Kevin The Carrot’s story as his adventures unfold throughout the season.”

It’s the first time Aldi has embraced the storytelling technique that has proved popular among its rivals. Last year’s ad was set to the Sound of Music song ‘Favourite Things’ and showed various people tucking into Aldi’s produce.

Seemingly taking another leaf out of the John Lewis Christmas playbook, Aldi has also released a limited-edition Kevin The Carrot soft toy that will be sold across UK stores for £2.99. The profits raised will go to its charity of the year, Barnardo’s.
