Maria Smith has tread a creative path as a copywriter, ACD and creative director for 12 years — nearly 10 of which have been spent with M&C Saatchi LA.

Today, the Los Angeles based agency has promoted Smith to executive creative director (ECD) after demonstrating her expertise and dedication to the agency.

Smith started her run at TBWA\Tequila and then was part of the integrated team at TBWA\Chiat\Day, where she worked on Nissan, Infinit, Sony and Energizer. At M&C Saatchi, Smith counts being on the teams of award-winning campaigns for Epson and the San Diego Zoo as part of her success.

"Maria embodies the M&C Saatchi spirit, is an indispensible part of our team, and loved by our clients,” said M&C Saatchi LA CEO & Partner Huw Griffith.

“[Maria] has been instrumental in getting us where we are today, and is the perfect person to develop and expand the company’s vision and reach,” added M&C Saatchi chief strategy officer Kate Bristow.

“It’s an incredibly exciting time to be stepping into this role,” said Smith. “We’re living through a really interesting moment right now. We’re in the middle of an election cycle unlike any other. The world is changing. And advertising is changing. A lot of people see a future that’s full of challenges, but I also see it as full of opportunity. I’m looking forward to being at the forefront of that charge as ECD, and working alongside a passionate and talented team that’s committed to taking M&C Saatchi to the next level.”
