Photo sharing platform Instagram is bringing its Stories offering into its Explore tab on both Android and iOS devices with the aim of encouraging users to seek out and view the videos and pictures of those they don’t necessarily follow.

The move will see a Stories Explore tab added to the existing Explore section from which the curious can browse photos and videos posted by strangers.

Explaining the novel feature in a blog post Instagram stated: "The new suggested Stories section highlights the most interesting stories from across Instagram's vast global community—and like the rest of Explore, the stories you'll see are personalized to your interests."

The Facebook-owned video and photo app is keen to encourage browsing by increasing the proportion of its 100 million users who visit the existing Explore tab. The platform will also be looking to give its Snapchat-style Stories feature, which launched only a few months ago, a boost.

Instagram has focused heavily on the Explore tab in recent months having allowed users to search for videos based on related events as recently as August.
