When Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced earlier this year that he was building an AI butler, many drew comparisons between the chief and Iron Man character Tony Stark.

Now Robert Downey Jr, who plays the Marvel-created inventor, has volunteered to voice the AI assistant.

The offer came after Zuckerberg asked his Facebook followers who he should ask to record the voice of Jarvis, the name he's given to his digital helper.

Suggestions came think and fast, with many fans pointing out that Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch or Avengers star Paul Bettany would be perfect for the role. Others said that Downey Jr was the only choice prompting the A-lister to respond with an idea on how to comprimise.

Zuckerberg was clearly taken aback, leaving fans wondering what will happen next.

The Facebook boss has previously claimed that he will solely work on the coding of the system, building a basic shell and adding to it as he can.

"I'm going to start by exploring what technology is already out there, then I'll start teaching it to understand my voice to control everything in our home - music, lights, temperature and so on," he asserted, continuing: "ll teach it to let friends in by looking at their faces when they ring the doorbell."

On the work side Zuckerberg believes the AI will help him visualize data in virtual reality and allow him to build better services and lead his organizations "more effectively."
