Facebook is furthering its bid to squeeze out Snapchat with the launch of ‘Messenger Day’, another direct rip-off of Snapchat Stories, this time by the social media giant’s chat app.

Prioritising nations where Snapchat hasn’t yet built up a head of steam Messenger Day launches today (3 October) in Poland, offering users the chance to share photos and videos with their own customisable filters.

In this way Facebook is hoping to head off its rival before it’s even begun whilst simultaneously driving traffic to its own messaging app.

Speaking to TechCrunch a Facebook spokesperson said: “We know that people come to Messenger to share everyday moments with friends and family. In Poland we are running a small test of new ways for people to share those updates visually. We have nothing more to announce at this time.”
