The tournament will post a video from each game in the season on Snapchat, along with Live Stories from inside the games - which will mainly show the events from fans point of view.

Video ads and animated Snapchat Lenses and Filters will run alongside content from NFL games within the app, but Ad Age reports that Snapchat has been offering big-spending brands exclusive sponsorship packages for $7m.

The NFL has inked several video-centric deals over the past 12 months, including a Thursday night live-streaming partnership with Twitter.

While its Snapchat Discover offering will be the first channel on the messaging app’s publisher section run by a sports league, Snapchat will still compete with Twitter for ad spend in this arena. If the reports of Snapchat’s pricing are true then it still rings cheaper than Twitter’s category exclusive sponsorship bundles which were apparently being offered to brands for as much as $8m a pop.

Just last month, the NHL posted a job ad looking for a Snapchat Discover editor on LinkedIn to help create a “distinguished vision/voice” for the yet-to-launch channel.
