The brief for the design is to develop a logo based on 'people’s creative ideas, inspirations, wisdom and suggestions pooled from all walks of life'. Additionally it should serve as 'a window to demonstrate the Chinese image to the world'.
The committee is asking for the design to have strong visual effects to be used on TV, with the full technical details of the competition to be released shortly.
Hans Zirong, general secretary of the Beijing Winter Olympic Organising Committee, said: “The emblem is the most important visual image element of the Olympic Games and constitutes the basis of the Olympic Games branding system.”
The committee has also released a list of 'key' words that the logo design should be based on, including; fantastic, extraordinary, excellent; joyful rendezvous upon pure ice and snow; world, reunion, festival.
In the mean time the logo made for Beijing’s bid to host the Games is being used.
