The company cited recent research it conducted around ad blocking, which found that 90 per cent of people in the region would use software to limit ads if there were too many or if they found them “creepy”.

To help brands and agencies avoid this, Unruly has launched its Video Lab in its APAC regional headquarters in Singapore. The tool, which is live in other key markets already, uses data and research to help brands learn what strategies and approaches are best for online video based on real-time data,

Similarly, the company has also launched its Unruly Pulse product in APAC, an analytics platform based off data from people’s emotional response to online video ads.

Phil Townend, Unruly’s chief commercial officer in APAC, said: “The rise in ad blocking is an existential threat to the future of the digital advertising ecosystem and unless brands and publishers wake up to this threat they risk alienating consumers for good. As our survey shows, more and more people are turning to ad blockers. And who can blame them? Every day, consumers are bombarded with poor quality, over-targeted intrusive ads slowing down their user experience.

“We launched the Unruly Future Video Lab to help restore trust in advertising. The digital video advertising landscape is evolving so rapidly we saw an urgent need to help our clients use Unruly’s video data and expertise to future-proof their digital video advertising strategies,” he added.

As well as a service for brands, the business will be creating a version of the Unruly Lab to help publishers in APAC understand how to drive more money from video advertising.
