Apple says Pokemon Go is the most downloaded app in a first week ever.

The technology business revealed the milestone to Techcrunch. However, it declined to share the number of downloads for the app, which only launched in the brand’s domestic market Japan yesterday (22 July). The app intitially launched in New Zealand, Australia and the US, before being rolled out to other countries like the UK in the past few weeks.

The game’s popularity has triggered a massive rush for Nintendo’s shares, adding as much as $20bn to the company’s market value, which is now worth almost $40bn. The game has already overtaken the likes of Twitter and Tinder on active user numbers.

McDonald’s has been quick to tap the Pokemania, becoming the game’s first sponsor in a deal that will turn 3,000 stores in the country into Pokemon Go ‘gyms’.
