For B2B marketers, podcasts are often a lower priority with the advent of social media channels, Facebook live and mobile marketing, but the Zillow Group has taken a second look at the often underrated medium with a new series called "Office Hours" which features Zillow CEO Spencer Rascoff who will broadcast weekly interviews with different business leaders and talk about what guiding a company means today.

Rascoff, who has recently been chosen as one of the most highly rated CEOs on Glassdoor and the 10th ranked CEO under 40 in Forbes Magazine initiated a program like 'Office Hours' as his leading real estate and rental company already had established an in house speaker series in place at its Seattle headquarters. The podcast launched last week and will be on Zillows' website and available on iTunes.

The first guest on the new podcast featured Dick Costolo, a veteran entrepreneur and former CEO at Twitter. Costolo offered leadership tips and well-honed secrets with one of his keys to successful leadership including the ability to "listen, decide, then communicate." He added that it was not to be confused with "decide, listen, communicate" - which he calls a 'common mistake.' The podcast also cautioned managers including CMOs not to blame superiors when delivering bad news. In doing so, Costello said that leaders disempowered themselves and ultimately weakened the relationship with their employees.

One reason that the regular speaker series can serve B2B marketers well is that it offers an opportunity where "the conversation always leads to a discussion about company culture, the most effective ways to communicate with employees and how to tackle tough decisions," Rascoff said.

With a majority of B2B marketers being encouraged to communicate more with CEOs, the show actually enables listeners to "come away from the conversations with new insights to share.

“I often come away from these conversations with fascinating new insights that I want to share with others, and launching ‘Office Hours’ on iTunes Podcasts will allow me to do just that,” Rascoff said.

Citigroup CEO Michael Corbat, Ellevest CEO Sallie Krawcheck, Mod Pizza CEO Scott Svenson, and Trello Co-founder Joel Spolsky are slotted for upcoming episodes.
