Publishing group Future has announced a £14.2m takeover of Imagine Publishing, extending its portfolio of titles to include a further 19 magazines in the process.

The merger will see the likes of Retro Gamer and World of Animals join Future staples such as T3 and PC Gamer under the same banner, complete with their associated digital assets.

Future chief executive Zillah Byng-Thorne commented: “This is a unique opportunity to acquire a market leading knowledge, science and technology content business which will complement and expand our capabilities.

“The acquisition will enable us to scale significantly our market position in bookazines and will see us enter the knowledge vertical, broadening our reach.”

Whilst the deal has yet to be concluded it is hoped that it will usher in opportunities for cost savings by merging resources.

Imagine posted revenues of £16.4m in the year to 31 March whilst Future generated £30.2m over the same period.
