Australian internet users have complained about an ad by the Liberal Party of Australia because they claim the tradesman, or 'tradie', in the ad is an actor.

Social media users have poked fun at the ad, which used Australian slang to ask people to “stick with the current mob for a while”, rather than voting for the Labor Party opposition.

The key criticisms are that he’s an actor, that he’s positioned strangely within a building site and is using a ceramic cup on site to drink tea.

According to the BBC, a Liberal Party spokesman confirmed that the ‘tradie’ in the ad was real.

Confusingly, Australian Council of Trade Unions claimed that the man in the ad was an actor named Andrew MacRae. However, the actor said he had nothing to do with it, suggesting that the person may be a tradesman after all.

The communication tactics in the Australian vote comes as both the UK and the US also gear up to vote on huge issues in their countries. If you want to keep on top of the latest news about Brexit, The Drum is liveblogging the top news during the week of the EU Referendum.
