According to Rolling Stone, legendary artist Melissa Etheridge has released a new song in honor of the Orlando massacre victims. The powerful track, “Pulse,” is both in honor of the nightclub and a reference to human life.

"There's just something very poetic and very meaningful about the name,” Etheridge told Rolling Stone. “You just start thinking about your own pulse. It's the way I've always felt about the gay movement, the gay issue. Here we are – people who are loving; we are fighting for who we want to love.”

Etheridge noted that creating the song was her way of processing the tragedy and told The Advocate that, “I found myself roaming around my apartment. I know that would make me feel better, and I just started writing.”

The song was recorded with producer Jerry Wonda on Monday and will soon be available to purchase with all proceeds benefiting a yet-to-be disclosed LGBT charity.
