Blockbuster action film director Michael Bay has confirmed he is jumping aboard the virtual reality bandwagon after accepting a role as ‘strategic advisor’ with The Rogue Initiative – a start-up production studio.

News of the tie-up was first revealed by the Hollywood Reporter although details remain scant at this stage, although The Rogue Initiative describes the project as an ‘immersive, virtual adventures offering gritty, danger-close action coupled with Michael Bay’s signature style’.

By this the studio presumably means Bay has been brought on board to render his trademark explosions and balls of fire in fully immersive VR.

Bay’s involvement signifies growing interest in the nascent VR field from some of Hollywood’s biggest directors with Steven Spielberg also having recently announced his own VR project.
