Manchester United’s partnership with 20th Century Fox has yielded its latest Hollywood stunt which features Wayne Rooney and co trying their hand at acting in the new Independence Day: Resurgence film.

The move is part of a sponsorship with the Premier League club and 20th Century Fox to promote upcoming titles from the film distributor ahead of their release.

The latest stunt takes the form of a spoof trailer and showcases the acting prowess of Wayne Rooney, Chris Smalling, Juan Mata, Daley Blind and Ashley Young.

In the one and a half minute video the five players enact scenes from the new film which sees them take to the sky in fighter jets to battle it out with aliens.

Prior stunts in the partnership have included a penalty shootout with Deadpool and turning four of its child mascots blue to mark the release of X-Men: Apocalypse.
