ITN has won a £35m contract to produce Channel 5 news until 2020.

The contract win will be welcomed by ITN following a change of ownership at Channel 5 when Viacom purchased the channel two years ago. Since then Channel 5 News has continued to be filmed from within a studio in Desmond’s Northern & Shell offices but will now relocate to ITN’s headquarters.

In addition to relocating the news programme will also be given a new look and custom-built set.

John Hardie, chief executive of ITN, said: “We are delighted to confirm this new four-year contract with Channel 5. 5 News consistently delivers distinctive, authoritative news programmes and I am delighted that Channel 5 has demonstrated its ongoing commitment to our innovative and high quality output.”

ITN generates 70 per cent of its £120m revenues from contracts to supply news to ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5.
