Castrol GTX documentary tells the story of a man who's driven 3 million miles in his Volvo

Castrol GTX has released a 13-minute documentary telling the story of Irv Gordon who has driven over three million miles in a Volvo P1800S over the last 50 years… exclusively using Castrol oil.

Reflecting on his journey and the lengthy engine life Gordon said: “We have been through quite a lot”. For every mile Gordon adds on in the car, he extends the World Record by that extra bit. Vital to Castrol.

‘The 3 Million Mile Journey’ video, created and distributed by Jaywing, hits home the fact that Gordon achieved his record using Castrol Oil for the duration of his record.

Involved was Top Gear cameraman Toby Wilkinson who utilised his experience in shooting cars, bolstered by presentation from Formula One host Lee McKenzie.

Irene Quero, global brand director, Castrol GTX said: “When we discovered Irv’s story we simply couldn’t keep it to ourselves. We briefed the agency to bring the story to life, resulting in the delivery of the fantastic ‘The 3 Million Mile Journey’ film. We’re tremendously excited to see the launch of the film, and hope to see it drive buzz and engagement for the brand within the motoring enthusiast community and among the general public.”

Maria Vardy, managing director, Jaywing said: “The story of Irv is phenomenal and testament to the quality of Castrol oil’s capabilities in extending the life of an engine.

“‘The 3 Million Mile Journey’ film is the culmination of a great deal of planning and co-ordination and we’re confident that it will drive the desired results for Castrol GTX. Having worked with Castrol for almost ten years now, we can’t wait to get stuck into the next opportunity, as the brand continues to innovate and go from strength to strength.”

The video was rolled out globally 1 June.
