The Gate’s #LoveYourNHS campaign has been awarded the Grand Prix at this year’s Roses Creative Awards.

The campaign – which delivered one of the biggest chart shocks last year beating Justin Bieber to the Christmas number one – was one of the big winners at last night’s (Thursday 12 May) awards ceremony which took place at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly, as in addition to scooping the Grand Prix prize, judges also awarded the work Golds in the Online Video/Film/Viral Advert and Online Advert or Campaign categories.

It was a good night for Edinburgh-based agencies Whitespace and The Leith Agency who manged to take home seven awards between them (one Gold and two Bronze for Whitespace and two Golds, one Silver and one Bronze for Leith) for clients including Mary’s Meals, Scouts Scotland, Irn Bru and the Scottish Government.

Manchester’s own BJL performed well on home turf picking up one Gold, three Silvers and one Bronze award, with wins in categories including Most Creative Use of Media, Best Integrated Campaign and Best Online Advert/Campaign. BJL client Ronseal also picked up the Client of the Year gong.

Creative Agency of the Year was awarded to Love after winning three Golds and two Silvers.

Love wins included a Gold for Packaging for the Umbro Medusae Boot launch, a Gold for Exhibition/Point of Sale for the Guinness Storehouse and Silver in Best Use of Illustration again for the Umbro Medusae Boot launch.

Chairman, Beri Cheetham, executive creative director of Leo Burnett, chose Threebrand’s work for Keith Brewery Ltd. as his Chairman’s Award and said of this year’s awards that though he found it “daunting” to be faced with so many entries he was heartened to see “how alive the industry is beyond the M25.”

“Those who had the tenacity to find the alchemy of a great idea wedded to great craft are the ones celebrated by the judges tonight,” he said.

Fellow judge, Jason Andrews, executive creative director of Rapp, added: “Judging the Roses is always inspiring…one of the great things about this show is its broad compass. In the space of two days, you’re judging categories as diverse as Best Corporate Identity and Best Online Film.

“There are experts in every field represented on the jury – which again is unique – but the sheer diversity of disciplines means you’re judging based on intuition, instinct and the pure appreciation of a great creative idea.”

This year’s event was proudly sponsored by Become and the Chesterfield Group.
