CNN hires former Yahoo editor to lead digital in Asia

CNN has hired former Singapore editor in chief of Yahoo Marc Lourdes as director, CNN Digital Asia as part of its plans to invest more into its digital brands across the region.

The publisher recently announced that it was investing heavily in both mobile and video technology in the region, as well as creating an additional 200 jobs.

Lourdes roll will see him creating the strategies to grow audiences in the region, managing teams across editorial and multiplatform. While having ownership of the time zone, he will also work closely with the publishers other key offices in London Abu Dhabi, New York and Atlanta.

Vice-president and managing editor of CNN Digital, International, Andrew Demaria, said: “With his combination of editorial excellence, regional experience and industry acumen, Marc is a perfect fit for CNN. His experience in co-developing news apps, growing social media traffic, and working with teams to drive new opportunities will help us realize our vision for the Asia-Pacific region.”

CNN is also investing in its digital brands globally, having recently launched CNNMoney globally, while also having plans to extend CNN Politics, as well as launch CNN Style and its socially distributed video network Great Big Story.
