Action camera manufacturer GoPro is seeking to branch out from sports and connect its rugged cameras to the likes of cars, toys and apps by launching a new developer program for third party devices.

The new program was unveiled alongside a host of innovative new avenues for the firm including integration with Periscope, footage sync functionality and a custom mount for Fisher-Price toys.

Also showcased was a hi-tech gesture based camera control system to allow the camera to be manipulated in situations with limited mobility such as when wearing gloves.

These innovations will be accompanied by a new ‘Works With…' GoPro badge to hihghlight compatible devices to consumers.

GoPro has been under pressure to diversify following the publication of disappointing earnings results driven in part by consumers opting not to upgrade their camera model every year as is the tendency with smartphones.
