The word "fearless" in the dictionary should include a picture of Margaret Johnson, executive creative director and partner at Goodby Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco. From her early days cold-calling creative departments (it’s a great story) to breakthrough work that makes a difference, Johnson is a forward-looking leader who embraces what makes unbridled creativity so great.

Her creative journey includes being part of work that has taken a stand — including Doritos Rainbows in support of the LGBTQ community and I Am A Witness, an anti-bullying campaign done pro bono for the Ad Council.

It also continues outside the walls of the agency, where Johnson offers up “musts” such as experiencing Sundance, reading The New York Times (leisurely) each Sunday, midday karaoke and going to Burning Man with a clear head.

Never shying away from sharing advice (or her opinion), Johnson also encourages people to “fail forward” by being truly brave and not being perfect (“Perfect is boring”) and not feeling as though the finish line of success is a straight line.

Enjoy this entertaining, wide-ranging discussion — and may it inspire your own brave course forward.
