An unnamed male Conservative MP faces disciplinary action after referring to a female political journalist as ‘totty’ at a Westminster watering hole.

Spectator magazine assistant editor Isabel Hardman overheard the MP exclaim ‘I want to talk to the totty’ and duly lodged a sexism complaint.

Taking to Twitter to outline her stance Hardman said: “I don’t betray sources. But I will betray sexists.”

Party whips have since spoken to the MP who will make a private contrite apology.
