Tesla electrifies early adopters with $10bn worth of Model 3 sales in just two days
Tesla Motors has got off to a flying start in the production of its ‘affordable’ Model 3 electric car, after generating $276m in deposits on sales worth $10bn within a mere two days.
The $35,000 vehicle is expected to begin production in mid-2017 but is expected to generate an average of $42,000 per once additional extras are factored in.
It will be the third major vehicle launch to be overseen by chief executive Ellon Musk and follows on from the more expensive Model X which took three years longer to manufacture than had been anticipated owing to production difficulties in moulding the seats.
That followed the 2012 release of the Model S in 2012, a luxury sedan, spelling out ‘S3X’ when read together.
