Following the success of Vice’s venture into the world of TV earlier this year with the launch of its cable channel Viceland in the US and Canada, the media group now has its sights set on international expansion, and today (5 April) announced the appointment of the man who will oversee that: Arjan Hoekstra.

Hoekstra will serve as Viceland’s European general manager, which will see him help guide the aggressive expansion of the network across the European market.

Hoekstra comes from Discovery Networks Asia Pacific where he was responsible for developing the overall strategies for its business, driving revenue across advertising and affiliate sales to build the portfolio’s core brands within the Asia Pacific region, overseeing a portfolio of nine factual, lifestyle, sports and kids brands.

Prior to this, Hoekstra held several roles at Eurosport, eventually serving as chairman and managing director of Eurosport Asia-Pacific Ltd, launching the Eurosport and Eurosport News channels in more than 20 territories around the region.

Arjan Hoekstra said of his appointment: “I have witnessed Vice’s meteoric rise to establish themselves as the most dynamic, creative and quite frankly, most exciting media brand and content studio on the planet. I am delighted to be joining the team during this period of expeditious growth as we look to launch Viceland across Europe."

Viceland launched in the US and Canada in February, and is set to launch in the UK and Ireland in September this year after it announced a partnership with Sky last month.
