This year, the CLIO Awards will present its first-ever ‘Independent Agency of the Year’ at its annual ceremony in New York City.

The accolade will be given to the independent agency that “receives the most overall CLIO statue points for entries submitted across medium types,” according to the CLIO Awards.

“As a global creative awards program, expansion into new categories, markets or locations is important,” Brooke Levy, executive director of marketing at the CLIO Awards, told The Drum. “Last year was incredibly strong for independent agencies, and it became clear CLIO should shine a light on the top performer in 2016. The introduction of CLIO Independent Agency of the Year comes at an exciting time for our brand, and for many, many agencies around the world.”

This year’s CLIO jury chairs include chief creative officer of Pereira & O’Dell PJ Pereira, global chief creative officer of VML Debbi Vandeven, and co-founder of Turner Duckworth David Turner.

The CLIO Awards will take place on September 28 at the American Museum of Natural History.
