Just over a month after making 60-second videos available to brands in the US and UK, Instagram is now allowing its users to post longer clips.

The image-sharing platform revealed the update via a star-studded video featuring various creators including Frankie Grande, Jack Johnson and Bretman Rock.

"We want to bring you fun, flexible and creative ways to create and watch video on Instagram. As part of our continued commitment, you’ll soon have the flexibility to tell your story in up to 60 seconds of video. This is one step of many you’ll see this year," teased the social network in a blog post.

The number of time fans spend watching video on the platform has increased by more than 40 per cent over the past six months according to Instagram. Videos were previously capped at 15-seconds for everyday users, with ads having shifted from 30-seconds to 60 at the start of 2016.

The new update will also give Instagrammers more powerful editing tools, bringing back the ability to make videos out of multiple clips for iOS users.
