Nintendo’s long-awaited smartphone debut has taken the form of a cartoon social network that invites members to create big-headed caricatures of themselves.

Available for iOS and Android in Japan Miimoto takes the form of a combination of its Miiverse social network and friend collecting toy Tomodachi Life.

Identifying friends through Facebook and Twitter the free app subsequently poses a series of questions such as what your last purchase was or what news you’ve been following – with all answer made publicly available to connections.

The platform also facilitates more personal conversations between two players which remain invisible to others and enables participants to picture their Mii in a variety of poses and backdrops which can then be shared within the app.

Nintendo is expected to release a further four apps this year which will focus on more traditional games incorporating characters from some of its most popular franchises.
