Aldi has previewed its latest seasonal campaign with a teaser of an Easter advert which will debut on television during tonight’s episode of Emmerdale on ITV at 19:15.

Starring eight year old Josie Cooper the fantastical piece depicts a surreal environment populated by edible Easter treats such as hot cross bun mountains, coiled butter fields and chocolate fountains.

Crafted by model maker Paul baker these scenes took a fortnight to build out of Aldi produce props before Cooper was given the opportunity to explore for the cameras.

Baker commented: “It’s truly been a magical project to work on. To be able to work through the eyes of an eight year old child and bring together the family spirit at Easter with Aldi has been a fantastic experience.”

Jonathan Neale, joint managing director of corporate buying at Aldi, said: “Customers often talk enthusiastically about their favourite purchases from Aldi, so we wanted this uplifting Easter advert to reflect that our stores are the home of everyone’s favourite things.”

All good things must come to an end however and when Cooper’s chocolate egg balloon is popped she lands back to Earth with a bump, only to find that her family have lain on a real feast.

Aldi have also been drumming up business with a heavyweight Easter campaign by putting a 60kg gorilla in front of a drum set to highlight the cost savings of an own brand Easter bunny over a Lindt equivalent.

Devised by McCann Manchester the piece forms part of the supermarket chain’s ‘Favourite Things’ campaign the advert sees the king of the jungle address the camera with a cut glass English accent before giving a performance that would put Phil Collins to shame.
