The Drum’s co-founder and managing director Diane Young and Caner Veli, innovator of Liquiproof and Dragon’s Den success story, have joined the line-up of speakers at this year’s TEDx event in Royal Tunbridge Wells.
Sponsored by creative agency Southpaw, the event is themed ‘Leap of Faith’ and will also include presentations from war veteran and double amputee Simon Harmer and fundraiser Jaz O’Hara, whose Facebook posts on her visit to the Calais ‘jungle’ migrant camp sparked a massive online reaction.
Nick Adams, co-founder of TEDxRoyalTunbridgeWells, which launched in 2015, said: “We want to showcase Royal Tunbridge Wells to the world while also bringing the world to Tunbridge Wells with a blend of speakers local to us and speakers from much further afield. Our ambition for TEDxRoyalTunbridgeWells is to continue to bring the event to the town every summer, growing in size each year and always delivering a day of celebration, challenge and curiosity.
“We’re really proud to have Southpaw as our headline sponsor. As a creative company with a huge amount of heritage in Tunbridge Wells they know how much value TED Talks bring to people’s lives and have shown keen interest in TEDx since our inception. Southpaw’s ethos, approach, enthusiasm and creativity is exactly what we’re looking for from our headline sponsorship partner and we know that working with them over the next year will be beneficial for the event and for the people attending, as well as being beneficial to Southpaw’s team and our own team.”
Southpaw’s group managing director Tom Poynter commented: “It is part of Southpaw’s mission to keep building progressive and creative talent in our region and we are delighted to be partnering with TEDx to accomplish this. It’s the perfect vehicle to drive provocation, curiosity and interest from a part of the world that has so much talent and the ‘Leap of Faith’ theme gives us an exciting opportunity to deliver something rather special to the TEDx audience.”
Diane Young, co-founder of The Drum commented: “I’m really pleased to be asked to speak at this event. I love watching TED talks online – some are simply entertaining or thought-provoking, but some have changed the way I think and act. The other speakers sound as though they will have some amazing wisdom to impart, so I am looking forward to hearing what they have to say.”
