Beth Rigby, media editor at the Times, is to join Sky News as a senior political correspondent.

Revealed by Rigby in a tweet yesterday, she said she was "very sad to be leaving the Times and the brilliant team there."

Rigby joined the Times in 2015 from the Financial Times where she held the role of deputy political editor. She succeeded Alex Spence, who left the paper in March 2015.

Holding a degree in social and political science from Cambridge University and a masters in Latin American studies from the University of London, Rigby joined the Financial Times in 1998 as a graduate trainee.

She became the FT's deputy political editor in January 2013 and prior to that spent three years as chief political correspondent.
