The BBC is readying plans to gather as many as 10,000 voters together at Wembley Arena for a mammoth EU referendum debate just two days before voting opens on 23 June.

Representatives from the Leave and Remain camps will be invited on stage to debate the ins and outs of the crucial vote in a televised spectacular hosted by David Dimbleby, Emily Maitlis, and Mishal Husain.

Whilst the precise line-up of debaters has yet to be decided it is thought that the Prime Minister, who heads the remain camp, will come under acute pressure to turn up in person and state his case.

The giant gathering will follow a 15 June edition of Question Time also devoted to the crucial question and a separate ‘youth debate’ chaired by Victoria Derbyshire on 19 May.
