Design firm Bulletproof’s creative director Steve Dunphy thinks that great creatives tend to view themselves as actors who must embody the role of the brand they are representing.

He compared great designers to actors like Daniel Day Lewis, who he said “whether he’s Lincoln or the really scary guy from Gangs of New York, he is that role. He reacts in a certain way and he speaks in a different way, much in the same way that we as creatives would communicate in a different way if we’re designing spirits or if we’re designing personal care.”

Throughout his career, Dunphy has held a number of senior design roles at agencies including Sterling Brands and Spring Design Partners, working with both giant companies and small mom-and-pop shops.
