Former Conservative MP Louise Mensch is to launch a new centre-right site for News Corp called Heat Street.

The platform will cover a variety of topics from "a diversity of viewpoints" in "a spirit of free speech and no 'safe spaces'," according to News Corp spokesman Jim Kennedy.

Mensch took to Twitter to confirm the news, promising readers an arena where "disagreement will be encouraged".

The ex Sun columnist will run the libertarian site alongside Noah Kotch, who helped launch data mining news platform Vocativ. Following her two year tenure as a Tory MP, Mensch moved to the US and launched several projects; including Twitter alternative Mensch and style blog Unfashionista.

She was a member of the parliamentary committee that examined the role of Murdoch and Rebecca Brooks during the 2011 phone-hacking scandal.

The Guardian first reported that she was working for Rupert Murdoch's firm at the start of 2016, with a spokesperson saying she had been focusing on "digital products in the creative/strategic arena."

Her latest offering will be aimed at the US market, with News Corp saying it has plans to hire several members of staff.

Mensch faced criticism last year after she was accused of breaching the Independent Press Standards Organisation's (IPSO) code of conduct during the general election following a series of posts aimed at 17-year-old Abby Tomlinson, who founded the #Milifandom movement.
