Liverpool has banned striker Daniel Sturridge from taking to the pitch in his own branded beanie hat after emerging for a warmup last weekend sporting a head warmer emblazoned with a motif of his signature goal dance.

The club’s dress code stipulates that players can only wear pre-approved kit from official supplier New Balance, except for their boots where greater leeway is allowed.

Sturridge appears happy to comply with the strict clothing regime after the stylised hat was noticeable only by its absence during a crunch FA Cup replay on Tuesday when Sturridge made his first appearance since December following a period of injury.

Should his recovery go well Sturridge is in line to be selected by England manager Roy Hodgson to play for the national side in Euro 2016.
