The Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute (PVRI), a global medical charity, has launched a new website to facilitate collaborative research into pulmonary vascular disease (PVD).

The site aims to educate about a disease which affects millions.

Created by Yoyo, the new site was launched in Rome at the PVRI’s annual World Congress on January 14 and was well received by the charity’s international board of directors, members and committee for young clinicians and scientists.

Aaron Shefras, marketing manager at PVRI, said: “The core aim of the project was to create a tool for our members to educate and inform the world about a disease affecting million worldwide and, ultimately, to progress research and collaboration to cure the disease in the long term. The second aim was to build an online identity that housed the story of our charity. We were very conscious about partnering up with the right agency to deliver something truly special and on brief and, with Yoyo, we’ve done exactly that.”

Jan Golding, director of strategy and experience at Yoyo, said: “We’ve worked really closely with the PVRI to create a research and collaboration website that's engineered to accelerate the medical and scientific work of its members. Our audience research and user-centred design approach helped us to identify and design the core functionality for both members and non-members. Through a series of interviews, workshops, iterative prototyping and user testing sessions, we were able to create an incredibly flexible web platform that is comprised of only a few modular components. This streamlined approach was essential in view of the complexity of the site and its audiences ranging from medical and scientific professionals to fundraisers and supporters of the charity.”

PVRI is the only charity of its kind researching PVD, with a membership network of around 800 clinicians and scientists from over 60 countries around the world.
