Lego and Star Wars have extended their longstanding partnership, announcing a videogame based on The Force Awakens.

The title will be released in June and will feature all the main characters from the 2015 blockbuster including Finn, Rey, Han Solo and Chewbacca.

Sony confirmed the news with a trailer released today (2 February), which depicts some of the movie's most memorable scenes, such as Finn's hasty arrival on planet Jakku, reenacted through Lego.

Developed by Warner Bros, TT Games, Lego and Lucasfilm, the game will be available for the PlayStation and Xbox, as well as other consoles.

Fans first became aware of the game yesterday evening thanks to a rogue product listing on Amazon Italy before the news was confirmed today following a note from Warner Bros promising to announce something involving "two of the world's most popular entertainment brands".

Ada Duan, Lucasfilm's vice-president, digital business and franchise management said in a statement that the company was "thrilled to be bringing back the Lego Star Wars videogame franchise," which kicked off back in 2005.

“Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens allows players to experience the new film in a unique way that only TT Games can provide, combining signature humor with epic Star Wars action. With previously untold story content exploring new details about the movie and its characters, it’s a perfect fit for fans of all ages," she added.

Earlier this week, Disney and Lego topped the list of of the world's most powerful brands, coming ahead of L'Oreal, PWC, Nike and Google.
