Variety’s ‘Shame On Us’ #OscarsSoWhite cover is hidden by a full-page ad for ‘The Martian’
Entertainment magazine Variety’s latest issue features a cover story called ‘Shame On Us’ that details Hollywood’s diversity problem, following this month's #OscarsSoWhite backlash that saw many people criticizing the Academy for not nominating any of people of color for Oscars this year.
Yet screenwriter and director Eric Haywood pointed out on Twitter that those looking to buy this issue of the mag may have a hard time spotting it on newsstands – since it’s covered by a full-page ad for the Matt Damon movie ‘The Martian.’
The ad features a block quote from Mark Watney, the astronaut played by Damon in the film.

Earlier this week, Variety’s co-editor-in-chief Claudia Eller tweeted out a picture of the ‘Shame On Us’ cover.
Tomorrow's cover on Diversity crisis will be a must read. As the cover line states, we are all to blame. Let's act! pic.twitter.com/7X13xq6WmY
