Pornhub and chill: Porn viewers surged while Storm Jonas brought the East Coast to a standstill

Porn website PornHub is never shy about exposing interesting data regarding the viewing fluctuations of its users.

Its latest entry into the zeitgeist, after noting that less gamers tuned into porn around the release of Fallout 4, is that there was noticeable swelling of users accessing the site across the US East coast during Storm Jonas.

From 22 to 24 January, cities such as Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Washington were engulfed in a sheet of whiteness as the blizzard brought the eastern seaboard to a standstill.

Pornhub claims: “With nowhere to go, and plenty of time on their hands, people chose to put their hands to good use and headed to Pornhub – much more than usual”.

And it has the data to back its chilling hypothesis.

Washington, the seat of the US government, saw the largest surge in traffic up 22 per cent on the Friday, 21 per cent on Saturday and a quarter on the Sunday, when compared to an average day.

The majority of these browsers were still using desktop computers.

No doubt there will be more insight to come from PornHub. It claims last January’s storm Juno also saw a similar surge in pornographic interest.
