The Drum has expanded its U.S. coverage to the West of America with the appointment of Doug Zanger as its North American editor-at-large.

Zanger, who most recently led content creation at Advertising Week and Advertising Week Europe, has been tasked with the evolution of The Drum’s coverage of media and marketing, with a focus on Western North America and will be based out of Portland, Ore.

This is another move in The Drum’s global expansion strategy which has included the opening of offices in New York and Singapore.

“We’ve known Doug through our partnerships with Advertising Week and Advertising Week Europe over the years,” said Gordon Young, editor-in-chief of The Drum. “When we learned that he decided to stay west to spend more time with his family, we quickly saw an opportunity to help him achieve that balance whilst still engaging his passion for telling stories about this industry. We’re excited that he can cover his home region and contribute to our goal of becoming the world’s top global media and marketing news and content platform.”

Zanger added: “It’s exciting to be able to ‘stay home’ to find and share the interesting stories happening in the west. There is no shortage of fascinating things and people out this way and it will be a real honor to shine more of a spotlight on it.”

Amongst his responsibilities he will cover sports marketing throughout North America and creative work, brands and technology in the western US and Canada.

Prior to his eight years with Advertising Week organisers Stillwell Partners, Zanger spent nine years working in radio, gaining a wealth of voiceover and creative experience.

He will take up his new role with The Drum next week.
